Obituary of Stanley Leon Trepner

Stanley “Stan” Leon Trepner, age 84, of Las Vegas, passed away Friday, May 5, 2017. He was born June 10, 1932 in New York, NY to the late Nathan and Lillian (Jacobowitz) Trepner. Stan was raised with his brother Ivan in Bronx and Brooklyn.  He had many cousins on both sides of the family.   Stan was best friends from childhood with the late Mel Lazarus who would later be his best man in 1988.  College wasn’t for him and he enlisted in the Air Force where he served 4 years.

Stan married Cele Rakow in New York, NY in 1988. His first marriage to Dawn Francis ended but produced his only child, Carolyn who he loved dearly. Stan began working in Las Vegas in the late 1950’s and eventually became a casino dealer.  In 1967 he moved to Paradise Island where he held several positions at the Resorts International Casino which eventually became Atlantis.  When he returned to Las Vegas in 1999 he worked at Binions and Aladdin/Planet Hollywood.

He loved watching a soccer game – especially if his granddaughters were playing.  He loved couponing and the challenge of spending “pennies” for hundreds of dollars of merchandise, which he then sold at garage sales or donated.  He loved animals and was rarely without a pet throughout his lifetime.    He had a wonderful sense of humor and could twist any comment into a joke or story.  Stan did not own a cell phone.  He was totally computer illiterate.  He couldn’t find the “on” button if his life depended on it, but he was completely enthralled by the concept of “the cloud”.  He would have long conversations with his granddaughters about the cloud and what he was storing up there.

Stan is survived by his wife of 29 years, Cele Rakow; daughter Carolyn Trepner-Kirson (Kerry Kirson) and his beloved twin granddaughters Alexis and Chloe.  His constant companion, his King Charles Spaniel Maverick. He was predeceased by his parents Nathan and Lillian (Jacobowitz) Trepner.  He is also predeceased by his brother Ivan Trepner.

Memorial Donations:  Stan felt strongly about any animal rescue group or veteran’s organization of your choice.
