Obituary of Shelia Debra Wernikove

Shelia Wernikove, a 21 year resident of Las Vegas, passed away on August 30. 2019, at the age of 83, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 8, 1935, to the late Nathan and Goldie Hoffman. Shelia graduated from Overbrook High School, with honors, and studied journalism at Temple University in Philadelphia. Although she was a talented sports writer in the 1950's, she worked over 40 years in bookkeeping for an electrical supply company before retiring. Shelia was an avid sports fan who could name the players and their stats regardless of the sport. She lived for Sundays when she could have more than one game on the TV at a time. She also loved scrapbooking, although she simply called it collecting memories. Her journals and scrapbooks, dating back to the 1940's, document a life filled with love, laughter and compassion. She was an incredible daughter, mother and friend, meticulously keeping track of birthdays and anniversaries, never missing a special occasion. Her biggest passion was her two grandsons. She was their hero, and they were hers. Shelia is survived by her daughter Elynne, son-in-law Jerry Greene and grandsons, Ross and Garrett. If you are always trying to be normal, you'll never know how amazing you can be…Maya Angelou. Shelia was truly amazing and inspired those around her with her humor, creativity and unconditional love. Donations in her memory can be made to the Arthritis Foundation.
