Obituary of Joan R Freitas

Joan Ruth Freitas, age 85, of Las Vegas, NV passed away peacefully on Monday, February 17, 2020 in the presence of her daughters Leilani & Lehua. Joan was born on March 7, 1934 at Milwaukee County General Hospital in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin to Edwin & Eleanor Glitz. At the age of 18 she enlisted in the Army as an Army Medic where she met her husband, Nelson in Okinawa, Japan. Nelson and Joan married on July 23, 1955. Joan continued her education at the age of 36 and graduated from Waukesha County Technical Institute on June 6, 1971 as a Licensed Practical Nurse. When Joan was asked what type of Nursing she enjoyed the most, she replied Army Medic. Preceded in death by her parents Edwin & Eleanor; her husband, Nelson Freitas and her son, John Freitas. She is survived by her sister Joyce Carroll, San Antonio, Texas; her Daughters: Lori Santos, Reno, NV; Leilani Freitas, Las Vegas, NV and Lehua Freitas, Las Vegas, NV; Eight Grandchildren along with their Spouses (Malia Lemke, Sarah Natal, Benjamin Freitas, Molly Tynan, Falan Nicholson, Cassandra Chalmers, Christopher Scarce, Ryan Schneider); Twelve Great Grandchildren; and numerous nieces & nephews. Family and Friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life gathering on Saturday, March 14th 2020 in Las Vegas, NV beginning at 2pm with Honor Guard presentation at 4pm.
