Obituary of Thomas Brendan Glennon

Thomas Brendan Patrick Glennon, 90, died peacefully on August 18, 2020 at Heritage Springs in Las Vegas, following an extended illness.

Thomas was born on 24 April 1930 in Belfast, Northern Ireland to the late Gerard and Ellen Glennon, one of nine boisterous children. Following a traditional Catholic childhood which included living though WWII German air raids of the city, he graduated from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland and passed his Chartered Accountancy examination in 1954, the United Kingdom’s foremost professional qualification within the spectrum of accountancy.  Accepting a position with Price Waterhouse set in motion a 65 year professional work journey through numerous industries including mining, entertainment, motion pictures and gaming sectors in diverse locations including Uruguay, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina and the United States (New York, Montana, Arizona and Nevada).  In retirement, he provided pro-bono accounting and business consulting services for small, immigrant owned businesses.

Thomas is survived by his three sons; Brendan (Louanne) Glennon, Niall (Cathy Liao) Glennon and Mael (Denise) Glennon; grandchildren Liam, Daria, Eliza, Ryan, Thomas, Jessica, Alexandra and Annaleah; siblings Bronach Callaghan of Belfast and Martin Glennon of London.  He is preceded in death by his wife Daniele, parents and six siblings scattered around the world by the 20th century Irish diaspora. He loved all of them deeply and imparted them with his wisdom and rapier wit.

A voracious reader, anachronism from a more refined time and unpretentious intellectual and gentleman, he cherished his wife of 53 years, caring for her during her extended illness while simultaneous battling recurring cancer himself.

A devoted Catholic and Knight of Columbus, he was a founding and active member of the Saint Joseph, Husband of Mary Catholic Community, and a member of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society, assisting the most vulnerable in communities throughout the United States.

Catholic mass celebrating Thomas’ life will be held at 10 AM, Saint Joseph, Husband of Mary Catholic Church on September 14, 2020, followed by private entombment.  The Reverend Father Roy Kurian will celebrate the Eucharist.  Please send donations in Thomas’ memory to the local Saint Vincent de Paul Society.  Our family would like to thank the Heritage Springs staff for their extended care of Thomas and Daniele while they lived at their facility.
