Obituary of Rhoda Blau

Rhoda Blau, 96, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away at home early Sunday morning, December 12. Rhoda was born in New York City to Robert and Anna Gold on March 2, 1925. She went to the Central Needle Trades High School and worked all of her life in her own business manufacturing girls’ sportswear. She was an avid collector of antiques such as porcelain, silver, art nouveau jewelry and especially Tiffany lamps. She read historical fiction constantly, attended the opera as much as possible, and knitted sweaters and hats for her grandchildren. Her beloved dog Sugar was her constant companion throughout the last decade of her life. Rhoda is survived by her children, Eileen Bellsey, Kenneth Blau, and Donna Wilkes; her grandchildren Robert Blau, Eric Blau, Jennifer Lucier, Steven Wilkes, Amy Wilkes, Rachel Reil, and Laura Wenger; sisters Carol Zaslowsky and Betty Tobon; nieces Karen Rose, and Gigi Pietz; nephews Jack Rose, Roger Tobon, Michael Altman, and Richard Altman; and great grandchildren Jacob Blau, Georgia Blau, Lilly Wilkes, Violet Wilkes, Layla Lucier, Ezra Lucier, Aviva Lucier, Leah Wenger, and Cameron Reil. She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Bernard Blau, parents Robert and Anna Gold, sister Natale Rose and niece Jodi Amoruso. Memorial donations may be made to the Las Vegas Valley Humane Society. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to TLC Homecare Services of Las Vegas and Nathan Adelson Hospice that allowed her to remain in her own home for the last year of her life.
