Being quarantined for the last month has some special benefits. I finally have time to look at my mom's obituary tribute wall. Able to grief and remember memories of her. I also posted additional pictures.
One of the things I like about my mother is her story telling. She would tell me stories during the Japanese occupation in the Philippines. She was only a teenager when it happened. Hearing this from her was so surreal. The ordeal that her family and friends had to endure. Then I had my embarassing moments. During my teens, my mother would like to show case my ability to play the piano for her friends. First of all, I am not a pianist. I can practice a tune or song that is shown to me, and I would remember it. She had me practice almost everyday. Of course, years later I took some piano lessons and I learned how to read some basic notes. She also taught me to crochet. I actually made a bed spread, a flower pattern. I wonder whatever happened to that. I remember she still had it in Vegas. And the most horrendous moment of all, (sorry Mama) was she forced me to make my own clothes to wear for school. Yup, actually had a singer brand sewing machine and knew how to thread it like an expert. I was sort of proud of that. I made many of my own trousers. The material was polyester and it had elastic waist bands....while my friends were wearing jeans or dickies. With that I learned how to mend and sew a button, too. My mother loved formulating her own artistic creation..from clothes to curtains. She wasn't content how the product was designed, she had to make it her own. Something new I learned about her just a few years ago. She had a phobia with materials that are very dark and somber. hmmm. After looking back, I am glad I learned about her and learned from her. She taught me the importance of life. Be grateful, respectful, thoughtful and humble. Prayers to you Mama. I love you dearly...

My Auntie Lillian passed away yesterday morning. She just celebrated her 91st birthday surrounded by family. She is my mom's eldest sister and I remember whenever I was around her, she would always be singing and humming...frying up donuts! I loved how she took me in during the summers so I could play with my cousin, Cesar, and we would wander around the neighborhood on skateboards, catching lizards in the empty lot across the street, or just playing pretend in the overgrown backyard. We also would wonder, "Why is everything covered in plastic?" She loved covering things in plastic. Later, she always wanted to know how my kids were doing and if they knew certain songs. She would hum the tunes for them...I'm glad they got to know her. May she rest in peace. ❤
