Obituary of Kenneth Charles Moultray

Kenneth Charles Moultray, a resident of Blue Diamond, passed away unexpectedly in the late hours of, October 13, 2020 in Las Vegas, NV. Kenny was born September 6, 1944 in Bremerton, WA. He is the son of the late Charles Leslie and the late Ethel Alma Moultray. Kenny previously served in the Air Force and spent much of his working career working for various outdoor sign companies. His close friends have noted that "It's a shot to the heart having Kenny gone. He was bigger than life and touched a lot people with his honesty, his integrity, his wit, and his acceptance of the people he lived, worked and played with. I think he loved us. It's difficult to pinpoint an adequate tribute to someone who is bigger than life. No statue, marker, or words can do justice to Kenny's presence. He would enliven any gathering of people and he gave laughter and hope to everyone around him. His presence was felt in his associations with the business community of Las Vegas, his contributions to the Red Riders, his volunteer fire department service in Blue Diamond, and his many years of service to the village of Blue Diamond. The best tribute we can give to Ken is to embody what he gave to us. He should live in our hearts and souls as an example of what we could be with a bit of effort. We could understand that no one is perfect and that everyone suffers some pain, some bad decisions, and some horrible mistakes and tragedies. To best honor Ken we could be better human beings; more accepting, more capable of empathy, and as Ken did, we can go forth with a song in our heart." Also known to many as Uncle Kenny, another dead friend noted that "Uncle Kenny has left his Red Riderz family with a heartache no one can heal. He was our brother, a friend, our uncle Kenny and now our guardian angel. His memory is a treasure. Kenny was a co-founder of the Red Riderz, he would often tell stories of the early days from back in 1997 of the Red Riderz. He and a few likeminded folks would gather at the R-Bar located on Charleston Blvd. to plan the next adventure. Of course, the stories would have Uncle Kennys "twist". Through the years Kenny held many titles in the club. He served as Vice President for 8 years with 2 different Presidents. When needed, he was the Sargent at Arms and filled the Ambassador position two different terms. The most remarkable qualities of Kenny were his wit, his wisdom and his caring heart. He loved the biker community and graciously supported their charities. His favorite motorcycle weekend annual trips with the Red Riderz were to Bishop, CA and to Pioche, NV for 20+ years. In 2014 Kenny met his soulmate Donna, she was bartending at the Hideaway. For those that know Kenny, know he wasn't one to go out much, especially leave his sanctuary in Blue Diamond. He was an old "fuddy-duddy", set in his way, but after he met Donna, he became a "stalker" and the Hideaways # 1 customer. She immediately became a part of the Red Riderz family. There are so many other stories to tell, it would take at least five years to share them all. The hardest part of losing Uncle Kenny isn't having to say goodbye but having to learn to live without him. A million words cannot bring him back however we will keep his memory alive by talking about him, thinking about him and continuing to hold him close to our hearts until we meet him again. Kenny Moultray is Legendary." A memorial gathering will be held in Kenny's honor on November 1, 2020 at 11am at the Village in Blue Diamond.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ethel and his son, Casey Moultray. He grew up in Bremerton, Washington and joined the Air Force after high school and was discharged at Nellis Air Force Base, which started his illustrious career in the Las Vegas Valley. He attended NSU (UNLV) and worked parking cars at the Hilton International Hotel meeting everyone with his contagious personality leading to a long association at KLUC Radio. His active involvement with the Las Vegas JAYCEES propelled him into a new segment of his professional life resulting in a successful career in the exciting illuminated sign business. He worked many years at YESCO, before starting Sign Systems Inc. as a principal with partners, helping lead SSI to be a significant and successful company. Retirement did not slow him down allowing him more time to dedicate to the Clark County Fire Department, Rural Division Station #80 in Blue Diamond. "Kenny served the Rural Division for 42 years and everyone who had the chance to meet Chief Moultray was better off for the experience and it was rare to see him in anything but a good mood". Kenny was co-founder of the Red Riderz motorcycle club and served for many years in different leadership roles enjoying their weekend annual trips to Bishop CA and Pioche NV for 20+ years. Kenny met his soulmate Donna McCue during his involvement in the Red Riderz. Kenny was an example for all of us to exemplify. Kenny never had a bad word to say about anybody. His presence and character will be missed by all. "Character may be manifested in great moments, but it is made in the small ones," which Kenny practiced every day of his life. Kenny's last words to everyone were always, "See Ya, Love Ya, Bye Bye". There will be a Celebration of Life in the village of Blue Diamond at the Community Center, on Nov 1st starting at 11 a.m.
